We DNA test!

Updated: Aug 11, 2020

One of the biggest heartbreaks to owners and breeders is to have a kitten develop an issue that makes the life of the kitten harder or too short. We all know life is precious and unfortunately we can not always predict what ways our bodies will change as we age. Many breeds and even cultures of people have health issues that travel through our DNA and get passed down generation after generation. When breeding an animal it is so important to recognize inherited genetic diseases and disorders as soon as possible to prevent other offspring from growing to suffer in this same way. The Maine Coon breed can be predisposed to have Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM), Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA),Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD), and Hip Dysplasia. Optimal Selection tests for already known and identified genes within many different cat breeds that carry some of these awful diseases. It is our wish to produce the healthiest possible kittens. Below you can find the links to our breeding pairs genetic testing results and our Echocardiogram early screening for HCM:
